NNSA / DOE Starfish Prime & UFO records
National Nuclear Security Administration · 1962 / requested 2022
Classified — SME review required
Request
All records from the Starfish Prime series (Operation Fishbowl / Dominic) on UAVs, UFOs, UAPs and related terms.
Outcome
DOE/NNSA acknowledged classified files on Starfish Prime & UFOs that need a subject-matter expert with jurisdiction before any release. After 2–3 status chases Hume concluded release is unlikely. Army said USAS American Mariner tracking records, if they exist, would be at NARA.
The FOIA Jesse Michels later cited. Hume reads the SME referral as proof that responsive nuclear-era UFO records exist inside NNSA's inherited AEC holdings, likely protected via the Atomic Energy Act 1954.
Names on this file
RG Hume
Independent FOIA researcher
UK researcher who files FOI/FOIA against MOD, DSTL, AARO, NNSA, DOE, FBI, CIA-adjacent holdings, EPA, CBP and police. Publishes as @rgh_ufos. Has said his name is on requests, has appeared in BBC and Mail Online, and was cited by Jesse Michels for the NNSA Starfish Prime response.
Jesse Michels
Documentary journalist
Cited Hume's NNSA Starfish Prime FOIA on a public stage (initially calling the requester anonymous). Hume replied with his name. Michels apologised.
Peter Zavattaro
EG&G
Told Hume he had no knowledge of UFOs during Dominic or Fishbowl, despite measuring Starfish EMP from the air. Did not answer Hume's question about Al O'Donnell's Roswell Nazi/Soviet craft claim.
Tom DeLonge
To The Stars
Hume notes DeLonge mentioned Starfish Prime and that McCasland briefed him on Nazi flying saucers from Argentina — material Hume thinks may overlap NASIC folklore Vallée was unimpressed by.

The DOE have classified files on Starfish Prime & UFOs but need a "subject matter expert" with "jurisdiction" to review these before release.
